01 · The Journey

A path built on
academic rigour.

Dr. Deepesh Kalra didn't take the easy route into urology.

After completing his MBBS, he topped his MS in General Surgery at S.M.S. Medical College, Jaipur — the institution that has trained generations of Rajasthan's surgical leaders. From there, he was selected for the M.Ch Urology programme at Madras Medical College, Chennai — one of India's oldest and most demanding urology training grounds, with a faculty rooted in the country's pioneering urology tradition.

He went on to earn his DrNB in Urology and Genitourinary Surgery from the National Board of Examinations. During his training he was awarded the H.S. Bhat Gold Medal in Urology by the President of India (Smt. Droupadi Murmu) — a national-level recognition given to one urologist in the country each year for academic and surgical excellence.

His VLD Fellowship in Advanced Endourology and Laparoscopy in Hyderabad gave him hands-on mastery of the technologies that define modern urology: flexible laser ureteroscopy, miniaturised PCNL, Holmium and Thulium Fiber laser, advanced laparoscopy, and minimally invasive uro-oncological surgery.

Before establishing Kalra Endo-Uro Care, Dr. Kalra worked at Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurugram, and Apollo Hospital, Chennai — two of India's leading tertiary urology centres — where he handled high-volume endourology and complex stone disease.

04 · Philosophy

Direct, modern,
judgement-free.

The philosophy at Kalra Endo-Uro Care is simple to state and harder to practise.

Operate only when surgery is the right answer. A patient with a small kidney stone may need water and time. A patient with mild prostate symptoms may need medication, not a procedure. The pressure to operate — for revenue, for reputation, for convenience — exists across Indian medicine. We resist it.

When surgery is right, use the least invasive method that works. Open surgery still exists for the right indication. So does laparoscopy. But for most stone disease, prostate disease, and many urological cancers in 2026, endoscopic and laser-based approaches give better outcomes with faster recovery. Choosing the right modality is itself a clinical skill.

Treat the person, not just the disease. Older men with prostate issues fear catheters and incontinence more than the surgery itself. Young men with infertility carry shame and partner dynamics. Stone patients in acute pain need to be heard before they're scanned. We slow down for these things.

Be honest about cost. A treatment plan that surprises the patient with the bill afterwards has failed regardless of the surgical outcome. We share indicative costs in writing before surgery. We accept cashless insurance. We don't push gold-plated implants when functional ones do the job.

"How a surgery is done matters as much as where it's done. The 10,000th case carries the muscle memory and pattern recognition of every case before it."
05 · Publications & Recognition

Beyond the clinic.

Dr. Kalra has authored multiple papers in indexed national and international urology journals, with a focus on endourological technique refinements, stone clearance rates with modern lasers, and outcomes in mini-PCNL.

He regularly presents at the annual conferences of the Urological Society of India (USICON), the South Zone Urological Society conference (SZUSICON), and the Rajasthan Urological Society. He has received multiple best-paper awards at these forums.

Beyond peer-reviewed work, he contributes to public-facing urology education through articles, video explainers, and the clinic blog — believing that informed patients make better decisions.
